Here we are in the middle of Round 3, and I am sitting on the stage in front of the massive LED, screen, with an hour and 17 until the results start getting entered again! This is my view:
Starting before the tournament, we had a few unfortunate dropouts, so 5 or 6 teams ended up with an Italian mercenary swelling their ranks. The most high profile of these was from Team Waterbowl, winners in Amsterdam, so the pressure is on Kroovian to perform!
The Mayor of Lucca opened the show, passing the massive trophy to Beppe, and Game 1 was on, with 912 coaches competing. One Dane was still on the plane, and a few were too under the weather to put in a performance, but the staff stepped in and the games went on.
After two rounds Waterbowl are sharing the lead with Mas Galakticos, after despatching the other pre-tournament favourites (Latino Lovers) 5-1 in Round 2. Spartakules were the stars of Round 1, being the only team to pick up the full six points, but they dropped to 15th after a hard fought battle with the Linemen.
At the other end of the hall (where you can’t hear the announcements very well…), the lowest ranked team is on 1 point out of 12, so the only way is up! We have had a spot prize of some amazing art awarded to the first interception in Game 2, and the first death in Game 4 will also get something nice.
Time for a drink now!
