Dear members,
Next week, Games Workshop are releasing the ninth Spike! Journal of the BB2016 edition. This issue (re)introduces and contains the rules for three mixed teams: Chaos Renegades, Underworld Denizens, and a new race, Old World Alliance.
Speculation as to what these rosters will look like and what the NAF reaction to the new race will be is rife across online Blood Bowl channels. As many of you know, for 2018, the NAF adopted the Annual Review format for appraising and adopting (or not) new GW rules for use at NAF tournaments. The process has always been that Tournament Organisers (TOs) are free to use new or changed items as they see fit until the review process, and then we (via global staff input) release an annual NAF Rules for Tournaments document every year on November 1. At that point, new items are either formally included or excluded going forwards. To be explicit about how this will all work for this Spike! release:
- Any roster changes (e.g. Underworld Skaven positionals and Linemen) can be included or not at TO discretion until the Annual Review. TOs should be clear in their rulespacks as to whether the previous or the current roster is in use at their tournament. In the event it is not mentioned, the previous roster should be expected to be used by default.
- Old World Alliance (OWA) may be included at tournaments at TO discretion until the Annual Review. Again, it should be made clear in rulespacks whether OWA are available to attendees or not. In the event it is not mentioned, it should be expected that OWA are not available.
- During the Annual Review process, these changes and new race(s) will be appraised for use at NAF tournaments.
- On November 1, the 2021 NAF Rules for Tournaments document will be released. At this time, the rosters for use at NAF tournaments for the calendar year will be formally established.
We will shortly be updating the NAF database to allow OWA games played at NAF tournaments to be recorded. No games played prior to this update will be accepted. We hope to update the website on the same weekend that OWA are released.
We hope this brings some clarity to anyone that needed it.
NAF Committee.
