Hi guys, my third step of my 2016 Blood Bowl tour brought me in the northern lands of Germany to play the Dungeonbowl, organized by DocMaXX. I’ve never been to this major and I always wanted to try it and this year I finally made it, also because I had to accompany Molok, the lucky winner of the free Dungeonbowl ticket I gave during the Italian Open 2015. So I arranged the journey and reached Dusseldorf with other Italian players: Manu, Molok, Mad and Andrea.parrella. Again I won’t speak about matches and results, but I’ll focus about the rest.
Sun and warmth expected us in Germany along with Gaunab, who gave us a lift from Cologne airport to the venue in Dusseldorf. The venue is a hostel in the city center, just next to the Rhine river: I think is a very good location, because you can sleep and play in the same location, without the necessity to move. Moreover the location is very nice as is the room in which we played our games. After our arrival, we met with the rest of the player from all over Europe: UK (19 players!!!), Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and of course Germany! We started to have some very good beers and played some games with friends, until it was late and we went to bed, ready for the tournament the day after. After a good and plentiful breakfast, we went to the main room where we had to play our games: everything was perfectly ready, especially the beautiful Dungeonbowl pitch handcrafted by the organisers. That pitch would have hosted the final match of the tournament and we were really amazed to see such a diorama.
We started to play and I felt a very relaxed atmosphere: everything went very smoothly and people really enjoyed their games. After our games, we relaxed a bit in our room, before joining the others for dinner. DocMaXX brought us to a pub where there was a very good buffet. As you probably know, Blood Bowl players are very light-eaters and it seemed like a locust invasion until everyone was so full that we just surrendered and walked back in the hostel, but not before DocMaxx entertained all the players with a nice Blood Bowl quiz game, giving away a lot of very nice prizes.
The day after ran as smooth as Saturday and the organisers followed the schedule with no delays (quite unusual for Italian players…) and the tournament ended with a lot of prizes, after 3 matches played on Dungeonbowl pitches.
It was my first Dungeonbowl experience and my thoughts are that this tournament is really well organized and I have to congratulate again with DocMaxx for all the efforts he made to run such a good event. Moreover is one of the most international events across Europe and it’s always a good occasion to meet new and old friends. I think I’ll be back for sure, possibly bringing some more Italian players, who also had a very good time.
Next Stage: NAF Championship, April 30th, May 1st
