Hello, my dear Blood Bowl players: I’d like to introduce you to the first article of the “Beppe Blood Bowl Tour”. In this 2016 I’ll play some tournaments across Italy and Europe and I’ve decided to share with you my experiences.
January is usually a cold winter month, even in sunny Italy, so I’ve decided to head to Valencia – Spain to find some warm weather and to play Blood Bowl. January 23rd and 24th were the dates of the Revabowl 8: the biggest tournament in Spain and one of the biggest in the world with its attendance of 164 coaches from all over Spain! From Andalucia to Catalonia, from Basque Countries to Balearic islands, it seems that every Spaniard BB coach was in Valencia that weekend. Well, I couldn’t miss it, so I booked the flight with my wife (Manu) and two other friends (Mad and Artica) and I landed in the beautiful Valencia. Our Spanish friend Festen was at the airport to get us and he took us around in the city center, sightseeing until we finally went to have lunch in a restaurant on the beach. You know, the hard life of a Blood Bowl coach…
We finally arrived at the venue: La Carreta hotel, which is quite close to the airport and to the motorbike circuit and there were already some coaches from other cities, so we started the party. I have to say that Spanish tournaments are a sort of all-weekend-parties and Revabowl is the big one among those tournaments. Revabowl has two important features that make it so special: first, you can play your first match on Friday evening, by challenging a coach. This is so good, because you can party all the night, without worrying about waking up early the day after. The second feature is the free beer for all the weekend. Yes, you don’t need to read it again: free beer for all the weekend and that rocks!
Well, I won’t write about the six wonderful games I played, but I’ll talk about the rest. First of all I was very happy to see a lot of new players: I know quite well Spanish coaches, having played several tournaments in Spain, but at Revabowl I knew so few of them and it was a very positive surprise: it means that there is a new generation of BB players willing to play tournaments around. The location was simply amazing: it suits perfectly to a BB tournament and I like very much the all-in-one formula where you can play, eat and sleep in the same site. At La Carreta hotel there’s a main building where is a room for playing and the dining room and there are several small buildings where there are the rooms for the guests; the hotel is not far from the airport, so it’s easy to reach with a taxi, furthermore Valencia airport is a Ryanair hub, well connected to the rest of Europe and you’ll usually find a cheap flight. Sanabeso and the “Loners Reunidos Geypers” are the organizers of the Revabowl and they provided with tons of prizes and a very nice gadget for all the participants. On Saturday night there’s the game night where you can play poker or any other game with the rest of the guys; in alternative, if you are a party guy, you can play your fifth match (in Spain tournaments are with 4+2 games formula) so you can sleep on Sunday morning and go on party for the rest of the Saturday night.
I think this tournament is definitely a must and my advice to you is to check the NAF website for the 2017 dates and try to get there. I’ll do it.
Next stage for the tour will be Fulginium Bowl – Italy: be ready for the “food tournament”
Hasta pronto,
