The following document will be circulated to Captains at the World Cup, giving their responsibilities in a little more detail:
NAF World Cup 3 Captains Briefing
As Captain of your team of 6, you have taken on some important responsibilities!
-
With your opposing Captain, you have responsibility for submitting results for your team. You will be given a match sheet for each fixture. There will be 5 different scoring tables, and it will say on each board which one to give your results to.
-
If the result sheet is not returned after 2 hours and 30 minutes of the game, the score may be entered as 0-0 with 0 TD and 0 Cas for all games.
-
The Captain will be responsible for timekeeping, and the refs will be speak to him about any problems
-
With an hour to go, the captains should check if any of the games are not at half time. Any game in that situation should be put on a chess clock with 30 minutes each. The refs will circulate to check the clock situation. Games may start early if the draw is announced early.
-
If one or both coaches are 10 minutes late for the game the team captains should note down your table number and who’s late. If the clocks are used, the coach who was late will get 20 minutes instead of 30. His opponent will get 40 minutes instead of 30. If both players were late both players will get 30 minutes. If one of the players is not at his table after 30 minutes, the other player may win by default!
-
If a player runs out of time all they are allowed to do on their turn is turn players over and stand players up. When both players are out of time the game ends. The clock may not be paused for comfort and smoking breaks, and should be switched for “out of turn” actions such as choosing sidestep, stand firm, diving tackle etc.
-
All games should therefore finish in plenty of time for the 2 hour 15 minute deadline, giving plenty of time for finalising results and getting the results sheets to the scorers.
-
There will be a “hurry-up song” played as the 2 hour 15 minute deadline approaches. At the end of the second playing of this song, the games stop. If a game has run out of time, this should be marked on the results sheet. If a coach is consistently running out of time, that coach may be put on a clock from the beginning of the game in future.
-
The majority of announcements will be made over the speakers in English. If you do not have someone on your team who can speak English, please find someone near who does.
-
It is expected that players will share dice if one player requests it.
What does “late for the game” exactly means?
Good question – there does need to be a cut-off. 10 minutes after the official start time is late.
