North America Team Championship 2013 – a report by Wedge22 of Thunderbowl
The first day of the Tournament the sun came out with force, at least 35°C, luckily the Hotel was just over the road from HRH and was nicely air conditioned and we had a lot of space in the room, although not enough on the tables for our 40mm boards, we had to play sideways if we used them as all Coaches had to bring their own boards. The first matchups were already assigned before the Tournament and just the table numbers were given, the organisers explained all of the rules before we began and then table 1 determined the weather and we were ready to go. After the game each player was supposed to fill out the score, and casualties caused by a block, nothing else was required. This seemed to be a rather cumbersome method, luckily after the organisers were advised of this they quickly came up with a new sheet during the lunch break. The new sheet was filled in by the Team Captain of each Team and they both signed off, therefore all the results and information were on one sheet for each Teams matchup, easy for the Organisers to enter into the database.
All of my opponents were great and I had some amazingly close games, one of which was against Simon (Dr. Evil) and I won on the last turn thanks to a dodge, with reroll then a long pass with failed interception to another lineelf in the Endzone. The other close match with a very exciting end was against an Orc Coach, he was up 1-0 the entire game and for my last two turns I managed the following with my Witch Elf. Dodge out run into three tackle zones, pickup the ball and dodge out and GFI without any rerolls used, I debated passing to my Elf in the Endzone but it was a 4+ pass due to Very Sunny and I decided my Blodging WE had a better chance of trying this in turn 16. My opponent then managed to cage me with some great rolls. On my turn 16 I had 5 Orcs surrounding my WE in a cage, and one of them had tackle. I managed the following to tie the game, Dodge into 1, dodge out, used last team reroll, GFI twice, then handoff to Elf in the Endzone, great end to the game.
Overall I managed to have a great showing with my Dark Elf team, 4W-4T-1L and was very happy overall with my results and the Team as a whole, we had alot of fun and played many other great Coaches, and we managed to Win the most Touchdowns award as we were tied with the German Team and they won best Team.
Lots of fun taking pictures of Team Canada holding up the Cup as we beat out the USA for most points, I was the one none Canadian holding up the Cup but it was for, the Colonies!!!
